By no means am I thankful for AIDS/HIV. I am thankful that we can start these discussions, talk about prevention, support and treatment.

I am thankful that I can hope, someday, December 1st will only be the day Rosa Parks was arrested for not giving up her bus seat.

162. Election day

Admittedly, I'm a political/news junkie. I read multiple news sources each day, and my radio is consistently tuned to the local NPR station. This is like my super bowl. Of course I have opinions, but the most exciting fact, regardless of who wins, is that so many people are involved.

I'm hoping for an accurate election as I sit and color in my map.

I'm not sure if you had heard, but the British reinvaded Boston... to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Freedom Trail in Boston.

94. Community Integration

I visited Arts in the Park last night with my sister, to enjoy the sonorous musical stylings of Java Jive. It was quite the event, but the most important aspect (aside from the free "Quincy Punch"* and hoodsies) was the community integration. Ten years ago this event would have been entirely Anglo. Last night I would say at least a quarter if not half of the observers were non-Anglo (mostly of East Asian descent). There were even some mixed couples! This change in community dynamics gave me hope for the future.

*Quincy punch is not an actual drink, but what my sister calls the suspiciously watered down fruit drink served at all City of Quincy functions.

25. Uncle Sam

In this fair city of Quincy we have our share of characters. Most notable is Uncle Sam (Rounsville). This billboard is on the corner of Newport and Beale, and is a contest for residents to come up with a new slogan for the city. $500 to the winner. He just warms my heart.
