116. Things that are new to me

I've never seen a plant growing like this natively.

114. Community Engagement

The fellow in the chair was sitting alone fishing, and after catching a fish, he also seemed to have caught a friend!

112. Enjoying nature

My new drive home brings me to Storrow Drive, which eventually becomes Soldiers Field Road. On this motorway, there many trees, and parks. The next set of photos will be from what I believe is called Artisani park, across from the athletic feilds at Harvard.

111. New Beginnings

As some may know, I recently moved out to Newton. Today, I am thankful for the opportunity of new beginnings.

110. Where am I?

If you were to guess, where would you think this beach was? The cape, perhaps?

Not quite... Look a little more closely, here.

That would be Wollaston Beach, Quincy.

109. Sprinkler fun

These sprinklers also help with the cooling off process, bringing back more childhood memories of playing in the sprinkler in the yard.

I hope you are all taking the time (and precautions) to stay cool!

108. Acting your age, not your shoe size

These teenagers took a breif moment to act their shoe sizes, not their ages. It sure looked like they had fun!

And a very happy birthday to The Bantering Bookworm
Happy last birthday as a "single" woman!

107. Bunches of flowers

This pile of flowers across from Umass Boston's parking lot, nearest to the JFK library is hiding some sort of machinery/vent. If you look closely you can see some purple flowers peaking out of the top of the pile of white. I think this, too, looks like a Jim Henson creation.

106. Summer mornings on the beach

Summer mornings on the beach are a blessing in and of itself. They are so serene, the perfect way to start a day.

104. Creative Advertizing

I think this was a toy store, but I just couldn't resist a photo of a cat roasting marshmellows.

103. Tourism

Its not clear whether these touring people are on vacations or staycations , but tourism is bustling in the cradel of the revolution!

102. Alternative transportation

Imagine fighting crime from a horse! These lovely animals help the police in Boston patrol and keep us safe. They also don't require $4/gal gasoline (but lots of carrots and hay!)

99. Free Family Activities

These families were enjoying the free wading in the Frog Pond to break from the summer heat. These include my favorite things: children, water, and free!

98. Squirrel watching people

This wee squirrel fellow was watching this lady read...

And then he got bored. :]

96. Childhood memories

One of my fondest childhood memories is visiting the swan boats, with my kindgarden class, my family and sometimes boyfriends. Its a simple slow boat ride around the pond, but so fun at the same time. Its hard to make less than three dollars produce so much joy.

94. Community Integration

I visited Arts in the Park last night with my sister, to enjoy the sonorous musical stylings of Java Jive. It was quite the event, but the most important aspect (aside from the free "Quincy Punch"* and hoodsies) was the community integration. Ten years ago this event would have been entirely Anglo. Last night I would say at least a quarter if not half of the observers were non-Anglo (mostly of East Asian descent). There were even some mixed couples! This change in community dynamics gave me hope for the future.

Boogie on over to Quincy Daily Photo to check out Slim's photo.

*Quincy punch is not an actual drink, but what my sister calls the suspiciously watered down fruit drink served at all City of Quincy functions.

93. Two for one!

These conjoined strawberries made me smile at the hiccups in nature.

These statues, learning, industry and religion, are located in Parkman Plaza, on the outskirts of the Boston Commons.
Happy 4th of July!

90. Public baptisms

Most Catholic churches hold baptisms in a private ceremony. The Paulist Center in Boston hold their baptisms during regular mass times. These two baptisms were celebrated at a 10 AM mass, allowing all congregants to welcome the children into the community. Father Rubin Patino is presiding.

89. Independance Day

Happy 4th of July, everyone. Today, I made this patriot trifle. I hope it tastes better than it looks!

88. Abnormally Large Objects

This huge map flag pin is part of a new tourism initiative in Boston. This particular point is for the frog pond. The city is encouraging everyone, visitors and natives, to visit the pins.
